Theater

I assisted Stephan Morrow, Director of the staged reading - 'performance on book' of Norman Mailer's "The Deer Park" in March 2007 at Makor in Manhattan. Norman Mailer attended and spoke at the end and answered some questions.

I directed a scene from Bertolt Brecht's play "Galileo". It was a peak experience and I will do more directing. The professor told me to go down to the theaters and try to start directing.

Thirteenth Street Repertory Theatre

I was assistant director of 'Line' - the longest running Off-Off Broadway play in NYC - at the 13th Street Rep for about 5 months. Also directed Rumple at the theater for a few weeks.

Line by Israel Horovitz at the Thirteenth Street Repertory Theater, is the longest-running play in Off-Off-Broadway history. The Thirteenth Street Repertory Theatre is a true repertory theater - alternating new plays in its stock of regular works. I was working as Assistant Director to the 90-year old Director of Line - Edith O'Hara. Edith founded the theater 34 years ago, in 1972, and Line has been running there since 1974. There is now a new director for Line, Krista Errickson.

'Line' by Israel Horovitz

at the Thirteenth Street Repertory Theatre
Directed by Edith O'Hara
Assistant Director Debra Cohen

This existential dark comedy by Drama Desk and Emmy Award-winning playwright Israel Horovitz (The Indian Wants the Bronx), focuses on a group of people waiting with no apparent purpose on line for some unnamed event. They don’t know what they’re on line for, but they’re all determined to be at the front of it. There isn't anything they won't do to each other to be first - and lying, scheming, cheating, and wrestling ensue as Horowitz examines the now-timeless theme of America’s constant desire (and struggle) to be in first place. http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/line172.htm

The show has been staged in over 25 countries and translated into over 35 languages. Join the well over 100,000 theatregoers who have laughed at this outrageous comedy

Open Run: Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 PM.

from a recent Thirteenth Street Repertory Theater playbill:
An alarming number of small New York City theaters closed in 2006, wiping out a part of the culture and heritage of New York City.

And now, Thirteenth Street Repertory Theater is engaged in a struggle for its very survival against real estate developers who want to tear down the historic building that houses the theater.

The Theater is asking your help in their drive to raise funds for legal fees. Also being sought is a benefactor to purchase the building on behalf of Thirteenth Street Theater. This is the Theater's address (and donation checks can be mailed to):
